
Scholarship Recipients Recognized at Reading Housing Authority

Celebrating the Stokes Stitt Scholarship & Paul G. Pecharko Memorial Scholarship
Board Chairwoman Lorena P. Keely presents awards to 2022 scholarship recipients during the April RHA Board of Commissioners’ meeting. The Stokes Stitt Scholarship is named after a long-time Commissioner who believed higher education to be the pathway out of poverty, a $2,000 per year award, renewable for up to four years, has been awarded to thirty-five recipients since its origin in 2001, totaling more than $100,000.

Yaneyda Huertas of Glenside Homes has been accepted in the Nursing Program at the Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences with a goal of becoming a Registered Nurse. She was a student at Reading Muhlenberg Career and Technology Health Medical Profession curriculum and graduated from Reading High School in 2019.

Erica Montalvo of Oakbrook Homes, a 2020 Stokes Stitt Scholarship recipient, will graduate from Harcum College in May with a degree in Business Management. She plans to attend the American Barber and Beauty Academy on Lancaster Avenue in the fall, pursuing certification in its Esthetics program. She has future plans to open her own business.

James Spring of Glenside Homes, a 2019 Stokes Stitt winner, was selected as a runner-up for the 35th Annual PAHRA Scholarship Award which is awarded by competition among member organizations of this housing and community development industry group. James is currently enrolled at Northampton Community College in the Culinary Arts and Hospitality Program and is the first RHA resident to receive this honor.
