Maintaining one’s home can be difficult as we age or experience health issues. The Chore Services program assists residents who live alone and are elderly or have a disability, lack support from family or friends, and who do not otherwise qualify for assistance through other community programs. The Chore Services Program allows residents to receive help with heavy housekeeping chores through an income-based cost-sharing program.
Senior Community Centers are a vibrant part of socialization for residents aged 60 and older at Reading Housing Authority. Senior Centers are provided in cooperation with the Berks County Area Agency on Aging and Centro Hispano of Reading and Berks County. At the centers, residents may enjoy a hot noontime meal, and diverse social and educational activities.

In order to bring holiday cheer to older residents and residents with a disability, the Resident Services Department coordinates with the local Salvation Army to register and receive a gift for the December holidays. Applications are only accepted for households that do not include children. Registrations are completed in September, and gifts are distributed in December in each public housing community.
